Recipe of the Month Breads, Rolls, and Muffins - Bacon Cheese Biscuits



INGREDIENTS
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/3 cup cooked and crumbled bacon
  • 2/3 to 3/4 cup milk

INSTRUCTIONS
Heat oven to 450°. Cut shortening into flour until crumbly. Stir in cheese and bacon. Stir in enough milk until soft dough forms.
Knead gently 10 times on a lightly floured surface. Roll or pat dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with floured 2 1/2-inch cutter. Place one inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 11 to 13 minutes or until golden brown.
Yield: 10 biscuits.
