Southern Green Beans and New Potatoes

INGREDIENTS |
- 1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans
-
1/2 pound hog jowl or bacon
-
6 to 8 small red potatoes
-
2 tablespoons sugar
-
Salt and pepper to taste

INSTRUCTIONS |
Wash and trim beans; break into 11/2-inch to 2-inch pieces. Place in a large pot and cover with water. Add hog jowl or bacon, potatoes, sugar, salt, and pepper. Bring to a full boil for 10 minutes. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for about 1 hour and 30 minutes or until beans are tender, adding water if necessary. |
