Appetizers - Butter Dips

INGREDIENTS
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 21/2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 31/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 11/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 to 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk

INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 450°. Place butter in a 9-x-13-inch pan and melt in oven. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cheese. Add milk and stir slowly with a fork. When dough clings together, turn onto a well-floured board. Roll dough until coated with flour; knead gently 10 times. Roll out into a 12-x-8-inch rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut dough in half, and then cut each half into 16 equal strips. Dip both sides in melted butter and place in two rows in the pan. Sprinkle with desired toppings, such as dried parsley, dill weed, sesame seeds, and/or garlic powder. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Serve immediately.
Yield: 32 sticks.
