Cakes and Pies -
Danish Apple Pie

INGREDIENTS |
- Crust:

1/2 cup butter, softened

3 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 1/4 cups self-rising flour

Filling:
-
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1/8 teaspoon salt
-
3/4 cup sugar
-
1 egg, unbeaten
-
1 cup sour cream
-
1 teaspoon vanilla
-
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
-
1 teaspoon lemon juice
-
2 cups apples, diced (Jonathan, Winesap, Granny Smith, etc.)

Topping:
-
1/3 cup sugar
-
1/3 cup flour
-
1/4 cup butter
-
1 teaspoon cinnamon
-
1/4 cup nuts, chopped

INSTRUCTIONS |
Blend crust ingredients; form into a ball and chill until ready to bake. Combine first seven filling ingredients; add lemon juice and apples. Roll out pastry for a single 9-inch pie plate. Form pastry shell and pour in filling. Bake at 400° for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350° and bake for 30 minutes. Combine topping ingredients to make a crumbly mixture. Sprinkle on pie. Bake at 400° for 10 minutes. |
