Smoked Sausage and Bean Soup

INGREDIENTS |
- 3/4 pound Hillshire Farm Lite Smoked Sausage, sliced into 1/4-inch pieces

2 teaspoons olive oil

1 medium-sized onion, peeled and coarsely chopped

1 small green pepper, cored and chopped

1/4 head cabbage, medium sliced

1 (28 ounce) can whole tomatoes, not drained

31/2 cups hot water
-
2 teaspoons chicken
-
bouillon
-
2 tablespoons sugar
-
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
-
1/8 teaspoon pepper
-
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper

1 cup pasta twists or shells
-
1 (18 ounce) can light red kidney beans, drained and rinsed

INSTRUCTIONS |
In a large pot, brown sausage in oil with onion and green pepper. Add cabbage and tomatoes with juices; cut tomatoes into large pieces. Add water, bouillon, sugar, seasoned salt, pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 30 minutes. Add pasta and bring to a boil. Add beans; reduce heat. Cover and simmer until pasta is tender, about 15 minutes. Serve with corn muffins. Makes 6 servings. |
