Tennessee Moonshiner’s Apple Dapple Pie

INGREDIENTS |
- Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced

1/2 cup butter

3 tablespoons flour

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1/4 cup water
-
1/2 cup brown sugar
-
1/2 cup white sugar
-
1 teaspoon cinnamon
-
1 teaspoon vanilla
-
1 tablespoon Tennessee Moonshine (apple pie flavor)

Pie crust:
-
21/2 cups flour
-
2 teaspoons sugar
-
1 teaspoon baking powder
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1 cup butter plus 1 tablespoon shortening
-
1/3 cup ice water

INSTRUCTIONS |
Melt butter; stir in flour and cornstarch; cook for one minute. Add water, sugars, cinnamon, vanilla, and moonshine. Bring to a boil; simmer. As the consistency changes, remove from heat and pour sauce over sliced apples. To make pie crust, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut butter and shortening into flour mixture. Slowly add water; don’t work the dough too much. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Divide dough in half. On floured parchment paper, roll out each half. Press one half of crust in the bottom of the pie pan, crimping the edges. Pour apple mixture into crust. Cut the remaining dough into into strips and form a lattice on top of pie.Bake at 350° for 45-50 minutes or until golden. |
