Appetizers - Best Biscuits

INGREDIENTS
  • 4 cups self-rising flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 7 tablespoons shortening
  • Buttermilk

INSTRUCTIONS
Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and sugar. With a pastry blender, cut in shortening. Add buttermilk to make a dough that can be rolled and cut out to desired size.
Bake at 400º for 20 minutes or until browned. Brush tops with melted butter before baking, if desired.
The cook says: “You can make this dry mixture (with shortening) and store in a container and use as you would any baking mix. It makes a good pastry when made with water.”
