The original Norton Grist Mill was built in 1825 by Tink McCoy, who later transferred operations over to Lewis Norton and his sons. People from the surrounding area brought corn to the mill for grinding into corn meal. The owners would take one gallon of meal for payment out of each bushel ground. In preparation for the building of Norris Dam, the Tennessee Valley Authority purchased the mill and the surrounding lands that would eventually become Big Ridge State Park in the early 1930s.

Fairfield Church of Christ has a long history in the small community of Bell Buckle in Bedford County. The church was first established in 1896, only 44 years after the town itself was established. Over a century later, the church is still flourishing under the leadership of Minister Jeff Collet. The church invites visitors to join them for Sunday school beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings and worship at 10:00 a.m. Evening services are also held each Sunday night at 6:00 p.m.
