Cookies and Candy - Jolly Holly Cookies



INGREDIENTS
  • 1/2 pound candied cherries
  • 1/2 pound candied pineapple
  • 1/2 pound citron, chopped
  • 1/2 pound white raisins, chopped
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 cup almonds, chopped

INSTRUCTIONS
Soak fruit in orange juice overnight.
The next day, drain fruit. Sift together flour, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Beat eggs and add to brown sugar and melted butter. Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to egg mixture. Add dry ingredients, vanilla, nuts, and fruit.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto baking sheet and bake at 325° for 15 minutes until light brown. Do not overbake. Wrap each cookie in a square of waxed paper. Store in a cookie jar.
