Sandwiches - Hot Ham and Asparagus Toast

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 (10-ounce) package frozen asparagus spears
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 12 slices boiled ham
  • 6 slices white bread

INSTRUCTIONS
About 30 minutes before serving, prepare asparagus according to package directions, but cook only until asparagus is tender-crisp. Drain and keep warm.
Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine mayonnaise with 2 tablespoons milk and mustard. Pour 1/2 cup milk into pie plate. Melt the butter in a medium-sized skillet over medium heat. Quickly drop bread slices in milk, one at a time, turning to coat both sides. Immediately fry bread in butter until golden brown on each side.
Place bread slices in a broiler pan. Top each with two ham slices, then three or four asparagus spears. Spoon mayonnaise on them. Broil 3 to 5 minutes until mayonnaise bubbles and turns golden brown.
