Branola

Ingredients

  • 6 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 6 cups quick oats
  • 1 cup wheat germ
  • 3/4 cup oat bran
  • 1 cup raw sunflower seeds or chopped nuts
  • 1 2/3 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick butter or margarine, melted
  • 3/4 cup vegetable or canola oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Raisins and chopped dates (optional)
  • Instructions


    Mix dry ingredients except oat bran in large mixing bowl. Blend melted butter, oil, and almond extract. Pour over oatmeal mixture and mix thoroughly by hand or with a large spoon until moistened.
    Spread out on large flat pans and bake 30 to 45 minutes at 300° or until toasted to a light brown color, stirring every 15 minutes. Immediately add oat bran and mix in slightly. Cool; add dried fruit if desired. Store in airtight container.
    Yield: Approximately 1 gallon.
