Ingredients

  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup cottage cheese, creamed
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon onion, minced
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 teaspoons dill seed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Instructions

In a warm mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. In small saucepan, heat cottage cheese to lukewarm; add to dissolved yeast. Add egg, sugar, onion, butter, and dill seed. Mix well. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt and add to other ingredients. Stir until blended. Dough will be soft.

Let dough rise about one hour. Spoon into two small, well-greased loaf pans or one large, round, well-greased glass casserole dish. Let rise for one hour.

Bake at 350° for 30 minutes for loaf pans or 50 minutes for round casserole dish. Remove from oven, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with salt.
