Preheat oven to 375º. Empty 1/2 of cake mix into a bowl. Add egg, water, and oil; mix thoroughly by hand or with a mixer at low speed. Blend in remaining cake mix (batter will be thick). Stir in nuts and candied fruit. Spread in a greased 13-x-9-x-2-inch pan.
Bake at 375º for 25 to 30 minutes or until it tests done with a toothpick.
To make a glaze, blend confectioners sugar, milk, and lemon juice until smooth. Spread glaze on bars while they are warm.
