In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and 1/2 cup butter. Add one egg and milk; mix well. Press mixture into a greased 9-inch square baking pan. Spread with preserves and set aside.
In another bowl, cream 1/4 cup butter and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Stir in coconut. Carefully spread mixture over preserves.
