Nuts - Sugared Sour Cream Walnuts or Pecans

  • 11/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 16 ounces English walnut or pecan halves (or a mixture or both)

Preheat oven to 150ยบ. Mix sugar and sour cream in a three-quart saucepan. Cook over low heat until sugar dissolves, stirring frequently. Beat in the vanilla. Add walnuts or pecans, stirring just until coated. Spread walnuts or pecans on an 11-by-17-inch baking sheet lined with wax paper. Bake for 2 to 3 hours or until the walnuts or pecans are dry and sugary. Stir occasionally while baking to separate the nuts. Let stand until cool. Store in an air-tight container. Yield: 16 servings (4 cups).
