Desserts - Easy Skillet Apple Pie

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 pounds Granny Smith apples
  • 2 pounds Braeburn apples
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crust
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 350ยบ. Peel apples and cut into slices of desired thickness. Toss apples with cinnamon and 3/4 cup sugar. Melt butter in 10-inch iron skillet over medium heat. Add brown sugar and cook, stirring constantly, for one to two minutes or until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and place one pie crust in skillet over brown sugar. Cover with apple mixture and top with remaining crust.
Whisk egg white until foamy. Brush top of pie crust with egg white. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons sugar. Cut 4 slits in top for steam to escape. Bake one hour to one hour and 10 minutes until brown and bubbly. If necessary, shield edge with foil during the last 10 minutes to prevent excessive browning. Cool 30 minutes before serving. Serve from skillet.
