Smoked Sausage and Bean Soup

Ingredients

  • 3/4 pound Hillshire Farm Lite Smoked Sausage, sliced into 1/4-inch pieces
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 medium-sized onion, peeled and coarsely chopped
  • 1 small green pepper, cored and chopped
  • 1/4 head cabbage, medium sliced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can whole tomatoes, not drained
  • 31/2 cups hot water
  • 2 teaspoons chicken
  • bouillon
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • 1 cup pasta twists or shells
  • 1 (18 ounce) can light red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • Instructions


    In a large pot, brown sausage in oil with onion and green pepper. Add cabbage and
    tomatoes with juices; cut tomatoes into large pieces. Add water, bouillon, sugar, seasoned salt, pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 30 minutes. Add pasta and bring to a boil. Add beans; reduce heat. Cover and simmer until pasta is tender, about 15 minutes. Serve with corn muffins. Makes 6 servings.
