Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons whole cloves
  • 1 tablespoon whole allspice
  • 12 inches of cinnamon sticks, broken
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 4 cups water, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups canned unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 4 cups jellied cranberry sauce
  • Red food coloring
  • Butter
  • Whole cinnamon sticks
  • Instructions

Tie cloves and allspice in small piece of cheesecloth. In a saucepan, combine the spice bag, cinnamon pieces, brown sugar, 1 cup of water, and salt. Bring slowly to a boil. Add pineapple juice and 3 cups water. Crush cranberry sauce with fork and add to mixture. Bring to a boil again and simmer for five minutes; remove spices.
Add a few drops of red food coloring and pour into heated punch bowl. Add a few bits of butter. Garnish with a few clove-studded orange slice halves. Serve in mugs with cinnamon sticks as stirrers.
    Yield: 10-12 cups.
